Missed Scan will Run on Next Startup

Antivirus Scans are important for every system inside a business to make sure that no file or virus are located inside ready to be activate on any minute. Nova Momentum Computers is using Managed Antivirus and while no Antivirus can guarantee a 100% clean computer it can protect from major ones. We perform a quick scan every day after 6:00pm but is always good to run a Deep Scan at least once a week.

The Quick Scan only scan important Windows Folders and areas on the computer that are more vulnerable to virus attacks but once in a while a virus get located outside this areas and this is why a Deep Scan or Full Scan is required.

We try to run a Deep Scan every Monday at 6:00pm but some computers are either off or in Sleep Mode and the Deep Scan is getting missed. Starting next Monday February 13 we will activate “Missed Scan will Run on Next Startup” meaning that if your computer is OFF on Monday or in Sleep Mode the next time you power up the computer the Deep Scan will launch.

This can take an impact on the computer performance since is a full scan and this is why we run it on Monday’s pass 6:00pm. If you don’t want to be affected by this full scan the next day during working hours make sure your computer or laptop is on Monday’s.

Holidays and Trick Emails are Coming

  • No carrier is going to send you an email of your package unless requested
  • The IRS will not send you an individual email to pay your taxes
  • No Government agency will ever send you an individual email, even if it says it was safely scanned and secured
  • Do Not open any Zip file (normally a yellow folder)  or any Word Attached file

Please let your staff know about these emails, let’s keep your network as safe as possible. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Note: While we were writing this post we just received an email Title “Jewel Aitkin” with a Word Document attached and the body that says

“Dear Customer

Send this email to all your staff or have them all sign up to our News Letter to stay informed.

System Restart Monday October 24

System will Restart on Monday October 24, 2016 at 7:00pm

Should you shutdown or restart your computer?

The answer is YES. You should shutdown or restart your computer at least once a week. This will allow some of the internal hardware to take a break and cool off from an every day power consumption and heat, it will also help the system to apply Windows Updates and Antivirus Updates.

While we are trying to keep your computers up to day, not everyone is in the Workstation Maintenance program and this is causing some antivirus not been able to get the latest update or perform the full deep scan.

We will schedule a system restart on October 24 2016 at 7:00pm to allow the workstations to get the latest updates from our Antivirus system. Please let your staff aware of this restart so Monday they close any opened document, file, QuickBooks or anything on their system. The best thing to do is to tell the staff to Close and Log Off the system (Do Not Shutdown).

Also remember to tell your staff to register on this News so they can also receive any Important or Critical notifications from us directly.

Storm Emergency Procedure

Good Morning

As you know Florida is in the Hurricane Watch for Thursday and as much as we will like to continue working during the storm, as a Network Administrator I do not recommend that. The UPS Battery Backups for all Nova Momentum Computer customers are setup to start the shutdown process of the server 5 minutes after power to the building is cut off. This is to give some servers plenty of time to shutdown properly without causing data damage but sometimes, services and software override this shutdown command causing the servers to stay powered until the battery runs out. DO NOT rely on the batteries to keep the server on during the storm.

Please plan with your staff accordingly on when to stop businesses and start the process of shutting down equipment. This will be the procedure to follow:

Tonight Wednesday October 5th starting at 5:00pm I will manually launch a Full Server Backup. Anything done on Thursday will be backup on a regular schedule but in case of an emergency the server will be restored back to October 5th.

On Thursday October 6th

  1. Protect the computers close to windows by either relocating them or by covering the computers and monitors with garbage bags.
  2. Remove any electronic from the floor, Computers, UPS batteries, Surge Protectors
  3. Power Down electronic equipment Computers, Monitors, Copiers, Printers, and UPS Batteries as well (UPS Batteries can be turned off by holding the power button)
  4. After all the equipment is turned off proceed to the server room and turn off the servers. In the event that you don’t know how, let me know so I can connect remotely and do it for you.
  5. Wait until the servers are powered down completely and then turn off the UPS Batteries as well, this normally should shutdown any internet equipment as well.
